our mixers continued for a couple of years until the core group of guys entered college (where there were more interesting events) and the young ladies got married off (thank you, great spirit).
there was the automat and a large cafeteria around or near columbus circle where we could hang out until the morning hours. they are long gone.
florence's older sister, a 20 year old single mom having left her thug husband or vice versa once in a while wandered through our mixers in her homemakers clothes. she may have been a good target for a hit-and-run smart assed college kid but a slow high school mid-teen needs more incentive than just receiving a glance.
her younger sister, xena, ,,, ummm .. zena, .... ummm ... zelda, ... ummm .. zera, ... ummm ... zero or something, whatever, eventually got married, moved to lawn guyland, ny, never to be seen or heard from again.
my only regret from this time was missing a spring boat ride on the hudson river because i was too uppity to attend. everyone reported they had a great time, possibly because there were no wet blankets present.
