for persons accepted to the new york city public colleges tuition was free ,,, free ... YES, FREE spelled F ... R ... E... E... but that was in the old days when no one had any money, when the joads were liberal, not republicans. my mom who could talk the talk would be difficult when necessary to ante up the tuition for a private college.
i was accepted to both ccny and brooklyn college. ccny was easier to travel to and all my neighborhood guys were either there or going to go there and being a great scholar all the gorgeous available coeds at brooklyn college were not a factor in my selection. actually i didn't know of brooklyn college's reputation.
