(continued)
along boston road from 180th street for two streets, where there was an entrance to the bronx zoo, were stores that catered to the commuter trade and the zoo visitors coming off the "el" at 180th st. station. at the corner of 181st and boston road there was a hall at which i recall being with my grand parents (ca. 1943) and then in 1952 i voted there in my first presidential election (i have no recollection of voting in 1956 probably due to the smoke and fog of my impending marriage and the end of my life - just kidding).
across the street at 180th and boston road was the bronx river part of the park with rowboats, and waterfall. two walking paths ran parallel to the river. much time was spent walking these paths. on a couple of occasions i walked all the way to orchard beach by going through the park, down pelham parkway past the pelham bay "el" station and then on to the beach. and of course the return walk.
very healthy.........
