AN ARAB IS AN ARAB IS AN ARAB

arab world protesting?  i think they are protesting because they are arabs.  they'll always be arabs.  they will never be americans.  sorry.

****************************************************************************************************************

i decided that i need more respect.  in order to do that i need more titles.  i'm considering:

1. dr. granpa don
not too bad. but every moron who has sat through 300 college credit hours calls himself dr.

2. dr. professor granpa don
ok.  sorta implies teaching ability.

3. col. dr. professor granpa don
yes.  i was in service.  i have (limited) teaching ability and i'm a moron that has been stupid enough to sit through 300 college credit hours.

179TH AND VYSE, BRONX, NY (PART XXXIII): LIFE BEFORE DEATH IN (ugh) NEW JERSEY

during the summer before my first year in high school someone put up a chinning bar in the lot on bryant avenue between 179th and 180th.  working out that summer was definitely worthwhile.  in the fall while other out of shape city kids had trouble in gym with the equipment and climbing the rope, i was able to maneuver these devices like (sorta a third string) spiderman.  all the kids tried to outdo each other.  artie was the strongest kid from the building across the street.

ON CREATION

WASH POST:  "Hot, faint and 13 billion years old

NASA's Hubble spots presumed oldest galaxy, the latest entry in a deep-space race among astronomers to bag and tag ever older objects..... "

who are they trying to kid.  everyone knows that the world and universe was created in 1995 by the-great-one, dick cheney, and is now 16 years and 27 days old.  do they think we are stupid or something?

they're jiggering up all those space pictures.  there are blue stars and red stars and white stars and other stuff.  they're trying to convince us that the color has something to do with their age, distance, speed or something.  its all made up.  ha, ha, ha - lol.  we kmow that those colors are natural and the sky is fixed in place.

the earth was created with all its creatures so we can shoot and kill them for feathers, rugs, other decorations and jerky; the beautiful places for golf courses and clubs for skanks, drunks, and assorted suckups.  thank you, dick cheney.

STATE OF THE UNION

of course i didn't see the state of the union address.  i figured i could find out what i think by watching the media take on the speech this morning.

watched whiney, spoiled rich kid donald trump on cnbc for as long as i could take it which was about one minute.  surprise, surprise, he wants to pay no taxes and to cut or eliminate social security which in case you don't know the recipients paid for while they could work.  its ok with me to just throw them in the street and eliminate taxes because i don't get social security and i do pay taxes.  yes, donald trump, you shit, i agree with you 100%.

also, i'm waiting breathlessly for "his-stupid-ugliness", steve forbes comments.

fortunately for me the politicians and media people can talk, talk, talk, but can't walk the walk.  and thats what they're paid to do.  just doin' their job.

mitch-mitch mcconnell is another one of my favorites.  having traveled somewhat in kentucky.  mostly from the cincinnati airport to jefferson proving ground i noted that fertilizer generated from mitch-mitch's talky talk can help grow those healthful tobacco fields.  mitch-mitch also gets assistance from the horse droppings from louisville to florence.

179TH AND VYSE, BRONX, NY (PART XXXII): LIFE BEFORE DEATH IN (ugh) NEW JERSEY

(continued)

the path along boston road was always open at all times.

the zoo fence must have been very roughly three miles long, running from boston road and bronx park south up to southern blvd., then along southern blvd to fordham road which (at some point) turns into pelham parkway further down and returns along boston road to bronx park south.

there was a tear in the fence near pelham pkway on boston road near where there was an entrance near monkey island.  so of course a brainless tween, me, went in after hours and was busy sightseeing while heading for an exit near my neighborhood,  in the empty park.in the zoo after closing.  surprise, surprise, i was accosted and interrogated.  fortunately they did not cage me, torture me or kill me.  i was told to, "GET THE HELL OUT OF HERE AND DON'T COME BACK!", and sent to an exit.

phew ....

179TH AND VYSE, BRONX, NY (PART XXXI): LIFE BEFORE DEATH IN (ugh) NEW JERSEY

(continued)

the day fdr died i was on a bryant avenue lot between 178th and 179th observing the cleanup of an old building by a group, many of which i was acquainted with.  i recall a neighborhood kid called "scully" running down the street yelling, "he's finally dead".  the rejoicing of someone at the ultimate bottom of the socio-economic-intellrctual heap.  i suppose he didn't want his family welfare payments to be in some big govt. plan.  no socialists in his family.

some of the people at the building site were helping to run small arms and stuff to support israeli people from the bastards.  as you know or should know, which you don't, the arabs, germanbastards and nazis (and as you don't know) were in bed together killing our guys (your fathers and uncles), so it certainly was not immoral from a patriotic american point of view but if you are a left or right wingnut your viewpoint being twisted may not agree.

LIFE AFTER DEATH IN (UGH) NEW JERSEY

an amazing day for two old people.  in the freezing cold where people a fraction of our age were in hibernation we went into dc, walked and walked and walked (did i mention our walk), ate out with the youngsters (those under 40), saw a live show and feel great.  i feel like i'm 140 sgain.

the show, tynan, about the life of, ken tynan,  a writer and theatre critic was .. ummm .. OK.  maybe i'm showing my age but the performance convinced me that life on the wicked stage is just as boring as my life.

currently jets are 3.5 point underdogs.  with the steelers alerted and studying the tapes and a couple of, sanchez, mistakes the final score can easily be 50 to 3.  going to sleep early tomorrow night may be best for a 150 year old man.

KITCHEN FAUCET MELANCHOLIA

after checking the modern delphic oracle known as the internet i found that i could correct or probably alleviate the problem of my leaky kitchen faucet with new O rings.  all you have to do is get the new parts compatible with your fixture, disassemle the fixture, replace the O rings, reassemble, pray to your god of choice and hope it works or call a plumber.

my choice was - just get a new fixture and put it in and save time and grief and it should definitely fix the problem .....  maybe.

the new fixture is now sitting in the kitchen glaring at me when i enter.  no problemo.  i think.  gotta go.

179TH AND VYSE, BRONX, NY (PART XXX): LIFE BEFORE DEATH IN (ugh) NEW JERSEY

mental debris-

one day after returning from clinton high school on the C trolley, i was engaged in conversation on vyse avenue by mrs. klover.  our families had been acquainted since rogers place since i was six.  i must have looked needy or she was lonely as she invited me up for an afternoon snack.. i declined and went home.  i'm sure my mom was off doing something important at bloomingdales or something.

mr. klover died around 1941.  i recall a fleeting moment of emotion seeing mike klover at ps 6 after i learned of his father's death.  my mom was surprised when she went to the funeral services and saw that mrs. klover was sitting in the back while a different mrs. klover was sitting up front.  a mystery.

179TH AND VYSE, BRONX, NY (PART XXIX): LIFE BEFORE DEATH IN (ugh) NEW JERSEY

(continued)

in the spring of the year (or fall - whatever) there was marble season.  everyone of the kids were playing, gambling and shooting marbles.

i had my first taste of business as the proud owner of a cigar box (at ps 67) with the lid bent over.  all you had to do was roll the your marble up the incline and into the box to win a marble.  if it failed, i kept your marble.  after two days i was the warren buffet of marbles.  unfortunately there is no rule of law or law and order in the kids' marble world.  two other kids decided to take my lucratve business.  i was successful in fighting them off but my box was broken in the fray.  still having a gazillion marbles i decided to retire.

being bored after a day or two of retirement i played a girl on the lot at 181st street and bryant ave. and lost my wealth to her.  women women, women.  i should have learned then and there that the male of the species is doomed.

FANTASY DREAM IN MY FANTASY WORLD

i dreamt last night that the jets overwhelmed the (9 point favorite) patriots who are so great.  best part of my dream was when the pats attempted a fake punt, bobbled the ball and were stopped in their tracks.  the weirdest part was that the jet coach, ryan, doubled over in laughter.  an nfl coach would never do that in the real world.

BANZAI - SIEG HEIL - ALLAH AKBAR

jets are on their suicide mission in foxboro.  oddsmakers do not expect them to come closer than two scores.  mayor bloomberg is expecting them to go to the superbowl .  very modest - i expect them to win the superbowl - banzai, banzai or should jet fans be saying allah akbar.  anyway kamikazi jet fans will be rooting for them at least for the kickoff.  after a few plays we'll be watching, two and a half men, or something.

looking towards boston road on 180th st. (from corner bldg. when bryant ave. existed on this side.)

somewhere off to the left on morris park avenue is triplets PIZZA - mmmmmmm .. PIZZA.
*******************************************************************
the C and Z trolly tracks make their turn under the station.

along boston road from 180th street for two streets, where there was an entrance to the bronx zoo, were stores that catered to the commuter trade and the zoo visitors coming off the "el" at 180th st. station.  at the corner of 181st and boston road there was a hall at which i recall being with my grand parents (ca. 1943) and then in 1952 i voted there in my first presidential election (i have no recollection of voting in 1956 probably due to the smoke and fog of my impending marriage and the end of my life - just kidding).

across the street at 180th and boston road was the bronx river part of the park with rowboats, and waterfall.  two walking paths ran parallel to the river.  much time was spent walking these paths.  on a couple of occasions i walked all the way to orchard beach by going through the park, down pelham parkway past the pelham bay "el" station and then on to the beach.  and of course the return walk.

very healthy.........

whoa, pass the kleenex.  i'm all broken up over this story.  the members of the u. s. chamber of commerce are sobbing over this ultimate sacrifice and kindness of a businessman.

as long as they know you are well equipped with working parts they will be wary.  keep sparta, new jersey safe.

CAN YOU SMELL THIS ,, MMMM
mmmm ....   pizza.  across the street from the ritz theater were a couple of places of interest.  a bar that i was only in once with who, i do not recall.  the important thing is that i had the greatest, bestest pizza ever made.  a magnificent crust (magnificently textured and baked), pungent, savory cheeses, tomatoes, oil and spices - mmmm ... pizza - AARRRGhhhhhh ... i can't take it.  i must have this removed from my memory.

other recommended pizza places circa 1945 - 1955 were along 187th street and triplets on morris park avenue.  a couple of references to triplets on the internet ---  two of them are,

"We have a pizza place across from my job that reminds me of old school Morris Park pizza like Liberty's and Triplets."

"Triplets pizza was great in its day!!!"

only a memory, now.  i must go on.............  sob.

the other place of interest across from the ritz was a barbershop whose only redeeming feature for a tween was a collection of esquire magazines with appropriate pictures and cartoons.  who cared how my hair looked?

BIZARRE IS THE STANDARD

pretty much nuthin this morning except for a few trivial thoughts on the giffords event massacre.

loughner turned down for the army?  having been in the army and worked as a civilian for the army it is very difficult for me to believe that this guy loughner is so bizarre that he was turned down.  insanity, ignorance, stupidity, esp, time travel, telepathic and religious powers run rampant throughout the army establishment from phd to taxi-driver but is considered ok.  this guy in comparison was considered odd.  bizarre is the normal.

i guess very bizarre is not acceptable.

germany or other euro-nations might find this guy right up their alley.

schoolyard basketball was a big sports activity.  unfortunately i have always been a third string basketball player.  i could run up and down the court just fine but handling the ball, shooting accurately and the threat of being knocked on my ass detracted from my performance.

we usually played on the public school 6 outdoor court but we had also played at public school 67 (mohegan between 178th and 179th) schoolyard.  at least once we snuck up to the roof of ps 67 which had a court.  several nights of the week public school 67 was open for teenager activities and you could play on a court on their ground floor.  the problem with this court was that the ceiling was right above the backboard.  if you were about 15 feet out only a line drive shot into the basket would work but many kids got good at this.

BEGONIA ENVY

for the second year in a row i am trying to grow begonias from seed.  why am i doing this?  because i enjoy pain, suffering, and failure.  there's no other explanation.

now going on two weeks since sowing, i stare blankly each morning at a smudge on a damp piece of tissue paper enclosed in a clear plastic topped case that used to contain 3.5 inch floppy disks (before they took them away from me).  a new fangled flourescent bulb shines down into it 14 hours a day.  will i ever see signs of life?  unlikely.

an internet site recommended this type of germination.  last year i got some germination the regular (missionary?) way and then agonizing death of the seedlings.  so sad.  a smarter person than i could just buy the couple of plants i want in season.

sheer stubborness on my part requires me to continue.  the same stubborness that kept me living and working with fools in the toxic waste dump called new jersey for 40 years like the biblical wandering an ancient israelite.

STARLIGHT PARK WITH COLISEUM IN THE BACKGROUND

a little beyond west farms square, within walking distance of my home was starlight park and the coliseum where you could swim in the summer and attend the circus at the coliseum.  as a tween i learned a lot about the anatomy of women at the pool because in the early 40s they might wear skimpy white bathing suits which when wet were like a full body wet t-shirt contest.

sanford, a friend sold me his starlight swim pass near the end of one summer.  all i had to do was paste my picture over his picture.  he must have been a successsful businessman because he also sold me a stray cat which later had kittens.  my mom referred to the cat as the tramp.

west farms square was and is a hub for buses now and trolleys then.  these vrhicles would converge from all directions.  yes, north, south, east and west.

among the places around west farms square was the post office, bickford's restaurant, a bowling alley, a newstand where you could get the sunday new york times on saturday night, and a pool room.

i spent many hours of my ill spent youth at the pool room, bsing at bickfords, and (not so much) the bowling alley.  yes, the GREAT depression.

179TH AND VYSE, BRONX, NY (PART XXIV): LIFE BEFORE DEATH IN (ugh) NEW JERSEY

(continued)

behind the ritz was a large empty lot paved over with concrete.  us kids would occasionally play softball there.  herman and jackie would play pitcher-batter seemingly endlessly.  they drew a strike zone on the wall and  ... ummm .. played their game, whatever it was.

what the nature and history of this paved area was is not known to me.  bronx county real estate records may provide some insight.  why would there be a large paved area next to the "el" bordering boston road?  very few people needed a parking lot for their vehicle.  the mob could use empty areas in new jersey for their debris.  perhaps the ritz management wanted to have an outdoor theater (next to the "el"?) at one time which explains how forlorn and destitute the ritz was.

one time i overheard a conversation outside the ritz between two young teens.  the girl said, "if you take me to the movies, you can do what you want".  my advice to the guy in retrospect is:  escape while you can; run, RUN, RUN NOW.   so sad - doomed, doomed, doomed.  i have no idea of the outcome of this encounter.  a young teenage guy may have thought he was pretty cool.  so great.  he's doomed..........

179TH AND VYSE, BRONX, NY (PART XXIII): LIFE BEFORE DEATH IN (ugh) NEW JERSEY

the ritz theater was around the corner on 180th st. between bryant and boston road   although the name is obviously a misnomer of world class proportions their menu of movies were classic.  it was a last run theater.  a theater in which long dead movies would be resurrected, arise from their graves and provide haunting visions and bad dreams to us kids for the rest of our lives.  even in the 1940's, "the cabinet of dr. caligari", "king kong", and "gunga din" were ancient.

in retrospect anyone who saw. "gunga din", should have been aware of the insanity of al quaeda and their followers.

i ignore the words.  just the tone and tenor of the song expresses my feelings.

vincent van gogh, was obsessed.  thats not for you.  don't let the bastards wear you down.

as they say, dating is like waiting for a bus, if you miss one, another will be along in a few minutes.

i lied.

this is all made up because my grand children know that there was only mist and fog before 1995 when the universe was created by you know who.  bible thumpers are wrong the universe is not as old as 6000.
