after two days at fort dix being herded around like cattle at the chicago stock yards we were put on a bus and sent to camp pickett in virginia. we stopped at a howard johnson's for our evening meal. they said they would not serve the blacks in our group. the cadre in charge just loaded everyone back on the bus without a meal and we went on to camp. not being a great martyr i woulda grabbed a snack if i coulda.
once in camp and settled, a detail to guard the mess hall was selected. foxes guarding the hen house. i was one of the fortunate. we ate well that night.

ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS MOVIE AND ALL THE SONGS, AND CHARACTERS. THEY REFLECT MY TIME. IT REALLY IS INDICATIVE OF AMERICAN LIFE FROM THE LATE '40s TO THE '60s IN SPITE OF WHAT THEY SAY. WHAT DOES GEORGE LUCAS KNOW?
