yesterday, i complained of some of our hard line irish politicians, reminds me of the book i just started, "specimen days", by michael cunningham about the poorest, unluckiest family on the lower east side of new york city. i can see that its possible that any family who had survived such poverty and bad luck cannot be sympathetic for people today who have that safety net. in the first third of the 20th century those without connections had great difficulty surviving and they hold a grudge.
i have this belief that the descendants of the joad family of the, "grapes of wrath", are now republicans.
